  • The 3d 3d Teapot

Last year I started looking into the history of the famous 3d teapot, aka Utah Teapot, which is instantly recognizable to all 3d nerds like myself. It was the first complex object created with 3d graphics and appeared in countless early renderings.

So – it turns out the original teapot was made here in Germany in the 1960′s, so I took to e-bay and started buying them up compulsively, amassing a collection of them in all shapes and sizes (mostly the same). When we were working on The External World, I got my intern, TM, to paint them up to look like wireframe and checkered patterns.

Now my collection is gathering dust, so I’ve decided to sell them. They cost €40, kinda pricey, but you’re buying a one-of-a-kind antique. They come in 4 flavors, white, soft chrome, checkered and wireframe, and 3 different sizes. There’s only 10 available at the moment. You can order them over at davidoreilly.bigcartel.com. Every order comes with a surprise or 2. Please allow a couple of weeks for shipping to the US – for some reason things are taking a while to get there these days.
