Zipper Lamp

This project continues my exploration of the “zipper” attachment technique I originally developed for my Somerville Skillshare workshop. It also gave me a little more practice with Rhino python scripting (as opposed to my usual vbscript based rhinoscripting).

From a set of singly curved surfaces and edge curves the script creates cut profiles that can be easily assembled into the virtual 3D shape. I’ve used it here to make a lamp from some pretty arbitrary conic sections, but there’s no reason this technique (and code) couldn’t be used to make a more figural shape.

If you’re interested in trying it out for yourself, the git repo is here.
